Central Vally Book Bank

cvbb_logo_small59% percent of children in the Fresno area live in high poverty neighborhoods. Almost two thirds of these homes have no books for their children.

The number of books in the home is associated positively with test scores for reading, math, science, civics, and history.

A source of free or low ost books permits schools to expand classroom libraries and help students build home libraries.

You can reach the Central Valley Book Bank at cvbookbank@comcast.net or check out their website at:

Samba’s comes to the Tower

Samba’s Brazilian Steakhouse has come to Fresno’s historic Tower District.  The north Fresno restaurant has opened a satellite location in the Tower next to the Tower Theatre where the old Daily Planet used to be.  In addition to their all-you-can eat menu the Tower location offers some options the north Fresno location doesn’t.  You may also order smaller, less expensive portions that are easier on the budget and the stomach.  The decor is classy, the bar is cute and intimate, and the service is first class so when you get a chance visit the new Tower Samba’s and then tell us what you think!

Christmas Tree Lane opens tonight

Fig Garden Village’s Christmas Tree Lane kicks of its 86th year tonight with a Walk Night.  Tonight will be the first of two nights this season in which no cars will be allowed.  We found this blurb on their official website:

Two nights, Tuesday, Dec. 2 and Wednesday, Dec. 10, are Walk Nights and belong to walkers only. On those days, Van Ness Boulevard is closed to vehicles from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Tree Fresno will be providing bus rides from the north east section of Fig Garden Village in the Financial Center area for the two walk nights. For more information regarding the bus service, please contact Tree Fresno at 559.221.5556. All the other December days are open to vehicle traffic.

The lane tour of old-fashioned displays is free. Donations are appreciated along the lane to help pay the cost of installing the lights along county property, which takes three months of professional labor by a hard-working guy named Shawn Caglia. The non-profit lane project is supported by contributions.
