59% percent of children in the Fresno area live in high poverty neighborhoods. Almost two thirds of these homes have no books for their children.
The number of books in the home is associated positively with test scores for reading, math, science, civics, and history.
A source of free or low ost books permits schools to expand classroom libraries and help students build home libraries.
